The revitalization of Surry Hills Village from a 1960s shopping center into a modern residential and dining precinct will shape the bustling inner city suburb’s next phase.
As a celebrated area of Sydney, three kilometers from the central business district, it’s an area noted for its diverse range of restaurants, bars, art, music and culture. The regeneration of the 1.2-hectare site aligns with the city of Sydney’s strategy of transforming inner-city urban precincts to meet the needs of locals and visitors.
A master plan of the entire precinct has been completed, conscious of the surrounding residents, to create a holistic community who can all access the open spaces.
As developer and builder, TOGA has assembled a team of renowned creatives for the exterior architecture, interiors and landscape design to ensure a visionary outcome that reflects the history of Surry Hills as well as its unique style.
The building’s heritage facade will be adapted, its texture and industrial context retained for the mix of high-end residences, retail and office spaces.
SJB Architects has designed a selection of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments along with luxury penthouses and terraces that will feature city views and private garden spaces.
Design firm Burley Katon Halliday (BKH) was tasked with designing the interiors of the apartments, while SJB designed the luxurious interiors of the penthouse and terrace collection.
The apartments incorporate outdoor spaces that take advantage of Sydney’s climate; they feature balconies or gardens landscaped with lawns and trees. Complementing the quality private open space, residential communal spaces will include walled gardens, barbecue courtyards and rooftop gardens.
Internal features will be a mix of raw natural finishes and rich textures, such as dark green marbled splashbacks, timber cabinetry, exposed concrete ceilings and industrial-styled lighting.
Surry Hills Village is located approximately two kilometers from Moore Park, a 115-hectare sports, recreational and leisure precinct, and Sydney’s main transit hub, Central Station. It will be a five-minute walk to the new Sydney Light Rail stop, due to open in late 2021.
The display gallery opened in January with construction due to start later this year. The project is expected to be completed in late 2023.
